Glass beads are made by winding molten glass around a metal rod called a mandrel. Once the beads is formed it is decorated by applying a whole range of decorative elements mostly made of glass but some times are metal elements. The beads are then put into a kiln to be annealed a process which allows them to be hard and durable.
My beads are made mainly from Italian Murano glass. This glass has been in used on the Island of Murano for centuries. I also use some new modern types of glass called, 'silver glass'. This glass gets it's name from the high content of silver and other metals which are incorporated into the glass formulas. Silver glass gives various metallic effects and make for some very interesting effects on glass beads.
