AboutThe Artist I am told I have to introduce myself and this I find very difficult. But it’s got to be done so here it is. My name is Anat Golan, I immigrated to South Africa with my husband in 1979 we have been living in Johannesburg ever since. Our two daughters were born here and now, almost suddenly they are all grown up and out the house, leaving a lot of time for me to do as I please. This is a great feeling when you know what to do with it. I have always been involved with arts and crafts. While the girls were growing up I was involved with pottery, however, as time went by I found my self waiting to pick them up at all funny times thus having to find something to keep my hands busy. That led to my next passion, embroidery. My dealing with fabric, thread and color still fascinates me. Taking plain fabric and turning it into an item that tells a whole story is just an amazing feeling. In essence what I am trying to say is that dreaming up ideas and turning them into a language that people understand makes me feel alive. Bead making and silver work are very similar in this sense it is a canvas for expression. I was first introduced to glass and specifically to lampworking by a very dear and close friend, Carmen Isaacs, her enthusiasm and passion have just rubbed on me, we share many interests but this one is just very special because it is challenging and pushing us to grow. I have recently added silver work to complement my bead work I like combining the two. Glass and silver are so beautiful together, be it in jewelry or otherwise. This site is supposed to be a show case for my work and I hope you will enjoy what you see. Take care and thank you for visiting. |
